I’m a huge fan of the idea that you can change your life in an hour a day. That’s why the story of my desk chair is so important.
Sometimes, we sabotage our own success with that one little thing that’s actually within our control.
Why do so many miss the mark? Why is it so tough to take focused, determined action every day? Because we all have the desk chair, in one form or another.
A lot of it comes down to following a structured regime and managing the environment and conditions that lead to success. The key is knowing what works for YOU and setting yourself up for the greatest chance of follow-through in the long term.
I want to share a story with you that you may find absolutely absurd or you may immediately relate. Who knows?
But if it helps you start digging to find out what is sabotaging your success, then it served its purpose. And yes, it all comes down to my desk chair.
For a week or two something was feeling off. I couldn’t motivate myself to do what I needed to do in my business; I didn’t even want to set foot in my office. Now for those of you that know me and have been following me for a while know that my business is my passion. It’s not just a source of income but my labor of love. So for me to be feeling this way is pretty rare.
What was keeping me from doing what I love? Well, my desk chair wasn’t cutting it. It was uncomfortable before, but at 9 months pregnant, I just didn’t want to sit in it. And my business computer had been acting up for a few weeks, stalling, freezing, taking forever to load whatever I was working on. It was enough to take me off my game.
Those 2 things, small as they are, distracted me and discouraged me
enough to get me to avoid doing what I needed to do to get the job done.
A desk chair was throwing me off my game. I was letting fixable
problems get me off track.
The amazing thing is that both are completely in my control and once I realized it, were instantly fixable.
There is an important lesson in all of this. Sometimes, it is little holes that sink the ship.
If you don’t plug them this could go on for weeks or months until you are totally off track. Instead of looking “out there” for the ways the universe, economy or people in your life are preventing you from reaching your goals, look a little closer to home. So, it’s time to get brave and fix your own “desk chair.”
Why you didn’t pick up the phone, send that email, attend the event you
should have been at or submit yourself as a speaker for the upcoming
conference that will get you in front of thousands of key prospects.
You are in control of your success and sometimes that means uncovering your own B.S. so you can get productive and make it happen, because nobody is going to do it for you.
So what is sabotaging your success? What is preventing you from achieving all the income, freedom and fulfillment you have been seeking? It’s worth taking a step back and determining what conditions or things, big or small, are standing in your way and get to work changing those circumstances now so you can open the flood gates and make your dreams come true.
Sometimes, the solution is as simple as a new desk chair.
